Social Circle
Social Circle was founded in 1820 and made a city in 1904. Situated at the highest point of the Georgia Railroad, this small town was a transportation hub before the Civil War. The lines were destroyed by William T. Sherman’s troops during the March to the Sea, but the town recovered after the war, and has prospered ever since. With a population of 5000, Social Circle is “a small town with a big heart,” and its close community is proud of their history. In rural Walton County, Social Circle has a peaceful country feel, but has quick access to I-20 and is about 50 miles east of Atlanta, as well as being a short half-hour trip from the city of Athens.

Social Circle is full of things to do. Many local dining choices are sure to please, including the internationally known Blue Willow Inn, where you can enjoy a southern feast in a beautiful turn-of-the-century mansion. Plan an afternoon with friends and shop the town’s great small businesses, and head to Fox Vineyards and Winery to taste local wines, and observe different parts of the wine making process. The close by Hard Labor Creek State Park is the place to go for family camping, The Creek Golf course at Hard Labor for an afternoon of golfing, and the Social Circle Theater for affordable, quality entertainment through performing arts and productions. Annual events like the Friendship Festival, A Taste of Social Circle, and the Kiwanis Chili Cook-Off are events that the whole family is sure to enjoy.
