The city of Conyers is one of steady growth and progress, and has been since its establishment. State authorities opened up what is now Conyers for settlers in 1816 and 1821. Mills, schools and churches began to pop up, and by 1845 trains were running regularly between Atlanta and Augusta. In 1854 the village had grown to 400 and was incorporated as a town called Conyers. In 1870, the state of Georgia acknowledged Rockdale as a county, and the rapid growth continued. In a few years, Conyers grew to 1,800 with stores, schools, hotels, a college, and increasing work opportunities. With the construction of I-20 through Rockdale County in the 1960’s the city of Conyers began to change even more. The city slowly developed away from the original area (now called Olde Town Conyers) and moved along GA highway 20/138, creating a booming district of businesses and national chains. Major businesses came to Conyers, and with new schools and solid salaries this was a draw for young families. Only 20 miles East of Atlanta, Conyers provided easy access and happy residents. The growth continues today, and I’ll share even more with you about why Conyers will be a great fit for your family!
